Our 2018 sports leaders gathered together on Wednesday to listen to guest speakers, share ideas around leadership and to participate in team building activities aimed at improving their focus on leading. Parade College hosted the annual workshop once again, this time in the newly completed Frank Mount Pavilion next to Garvey Oval. Over 160 Year 11 students were invited to attend, all of whom have either been appointed to a sports leadership role in 2018 or are in contention for such a role within their school.
Don Elgin inspired the group with stories of his childhood challenges, providing them with an insight through his journey towards an elite paralympic sporting career. He encouraged the boys to “just have a crack” and “be the best you can be”. Luke Wintle lead a small group discussion on leadership skills, challenging the boys to be “committed, not just involved”. A physical activities challenge was conducted by ACC Assistant Rosie Welsford, with the boys working together in groups of 3 or 4 to overcome certain challenges or work together to achieve a goal.
It was a really positive day for the Association with plenty for the students to take away and implement in their own sports leadership in 2018.
